Milkshakes in San Jose

A milkshake should require effort to drink. Ours ($8.79) are hand-spun to order — real ice cream worked to that thick-but-drinkable point that machine-dispensed shakes never reach — and they exist in their natural habitat here: next to a hot burger and salty fries. The burger-shake-fries triangle is the whole argument for this place, and the shake is a full third of it.

Why Burger Barn Milkshakes

Hand-spinning is slower and costs us more effort than pulling a lever on a soft-serve machine. We do it anyway, because the texture difference is the entire point of a milkshake. You'll taste the difference in the first pull on the straw.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes a hand-spun shake different?+

It starts as real ice cream and gets blended to order, so it's dense and rich rather than aerated soft-serve. Thicker, colder, better.

What flavors are available?+

Current flavors are listed on the online ordering page — the classics are always in rotation.

Do shakes travel for takeout?+

Yes — a thick shake holds up on a drive better than a thin one. Order online and grab it at the counter.
